Texas Trip
Happy Birthday Carmen
Friday July 27 was Carmen's birthday. We celebrated by going to La Pena. There they have a Peruvian celebration with lots of Peruvian music, and dancing in tradition Peruvian garb. We all went, Carmen, Lila, Ceci, Lina and I. Edgardo stayed home. There at La Pena we ran into Rebecca and her family. They are Peruvian friends going way back to before we were married. I have to admit that I really didn't want to go, but I had a great time and was glad I went. I took some video and will probably be posting it on bearfamily.com soon.
Saturday July 28th is Peruvian Independence day. I had to go into the office to catch up on some work. Carmen went into work early. When I got home, I took my nephew Kike to the Saturn dealer in Fairfield. There he decided to purchase a Turbo Charged Saturn Sky. What a car. He is only 18 and he is buying his mid-life crisis car. I won't tell you how much he paid, or how much he is being charge for insurance. It would give you a nose bleed.
While all of this sounds like it should not take too long, it did. We spent three hours in the Saturn dealer. Being a Saturday during summer vacation, the freeway was packed. I suspect this was because of all the people going to Marine World Africa USA. Anyway, we were supposed to go to the 70th birthday part of Ceci's Padrino (God father), but it took so long that we were too late to go.
So ... Saturday night Lila and I went to the last showing of the Simpson's movies. We both really liked it, but then again, we are huge fans of the Simpson's. Ceci saw the movie earlier in the day with her boyfriend. Carmen didn't want to go as she is not a big fan of the Simpson's.
Sunday I spent working on the house with my friend Gary Cheek. I pretty much act as his assistant. As I'm not very skilled in the ways of construction. We have finished replacing the siding for now, fixed the garage door and install some new redwood 2x4's for overhead of our entrance.

Miscellanous Happenings
Well... Let's see...
Grandpa got a Treo...look out!
We are getting our roof replaced.
I finally got my 1968 VW bug back with a rebuilt engine. It runs so nice.
We will be making a road trip the week of August 5th. Some details are posted on the calendar, and will be updated as we go along.

Lila Goes to Texas
Lila went to Texas last week to visit her childhood friend. Someone really should ask her to post the details!
World Series of Poker ... I won what?
Well...first of all, I attended the World Series of poker weekend before last. I have a great time and brought back three bags full of free stuff including 11 t-shirts.
During the days in Las Vegas, besides getting lots of free stuff, I got We will have ports of callin Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. We have never been to any of these places and are really looking forward to it. They are even paying for our flight to and from Miami. The dates have already been posted on the calendar.

World Series of Poker
I took a couple of days off to be a spectator at the World Series of Poker. This is the fourth year I have attended. The first two years, were by accident. Last year and this year were planned. I got a free flight via Southwest and stayed at the Casino Royale where my friend is the GM. It really is a great little casino hotel. It is the only independently owned casino left on the strip.
In case you are wondering, I did not play in the World Series of Poker. I did play in a small tournament. It got down to two of use and we agreed to split the pot. That means that I have now placed in the money 6 out of eleven tournaments. Not bad, but they are all very small tournaments.
The great thing about the World Series of Poker, as produced by Harrahs at the Rio, is that they have a huge trade-show as part of the whole thing and it doesn't cost anything. I came back with three bags of stuff, including 11 t-shirts, a sweatshirt with a hood, Nice glass mug, water bottles, key chains, too many decks of cards to count and even chapstick.
This time instead of getting autographs for myself, I got a bunch on a shirt for Lila as a surprise. I will be adding a poker web page to my portion (oso) of bearfamily.com.
I naturally managed to spend all the money I won. Part of that was to see Jim Belushi perform with his band at the Orleans. I had a fantastic time. The next evening I went to see the Fab Four at Planet Hollywood, formerly the Aladdin.
The final evening I got to have dinner with my friend Chuck Wood and his wife Joan. We dined at Fish Bone and saw that new movie with Robin Williams as a reverend.
When it was all over, I was so very gland to be home.

Finally!
I finally got to be a contributor! Yay! Any who, things new with me are the following: I'm in summer school now and this math class is the requirement for me to get my AA and hopefully I'll get it in the fall. I'm also leaving for Texas on July 11th to visit friends and my cousin and to just get away for a little bit from the drama that teenage life has to offer. I never thought it would be so exhausting being a teenager. I would like to also let every one know that I plan to transfer to Cal State "East Bay" formerly known as Cal State Hayward. It's quite odd, I applied for Cal State Hayward but I was accepted to Cal State "East Bay". Well I guess that's all for now.
