Jake Joins Bearfamily.com

Click on Jakes name and see a picture from his 5th birthday!

Welcome aboard Jake!

Disneyland and more

Wow,

What a weekend we had. I (Ed) was in Florida with Best Western and Lexington hotels. I was originally to fly back to Oakland Friday and fly down to Orange County (John Wayne) Airport. I rebooked my flight to fly from Fort Lauderdale to Orange County so that I could cut back a bit on the travel. I flew from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, to Phoenix to Orange County. Met the rest of the family Kike (brother in law), Carolina, Enrique, Kike (nephew), Lila, Ceci and her boyfriend Jay.

We spent Saturday and Suday at Disneyland. Saturday was the world premier of the third Pirates of the Caribean movie and Disnyland closed early. We still managed to have a very good time. Kike, Carolina, Enrique and myself headed early (7:00am) over to Toontown and meet Mickey. As we exited, they gave us 12 fast passes, which was wonderful.

Unfortunately, we missed Jakes Birthday, but did pick him up a little something.

On the way back, our 9:10pm flight was delayed. This is a problem as Orange County Airport does not allow flights to take off or land after 10:00pm. At 9:30 we are all finally on the plane, but we had a problem. There was a drunk guy that was upsetting the two ladies on either side of him a lot of grief. The flight attendants spoke to the captian via a phone, they did not open the door to the cockpit. Security was brought on board. In the meantime, I offered to sit on one side of the drunk and I volunteered my brother in law to sit on the otherside and that the drunk would not be able to cause any problems. They accepted this solution, which was great. Since we had pulled away from the gate, I was concerned that the problem could not be resolved before 10:00pm and we really needed to get home.

After we arrived in Oakaland, the police had a nice chat with him and the ladies.

Mother's Day and More

Friday evening we finshed up the framing of the pass through for the kitchen. We pulled out all of the paper and tape and got the new Sun Room ready for use.

Meanwhile, Ceci's softball team beat El Cerrito. Ceci played great, scored, played defense so well that she was awarded the game ball. We are so proud of her and I am so disappointed that I could not be there to support her, but her mother was.

Lila fixed a great vodka pasta and grilled chicken skeweres. We had a poker party as our first event in the new Sun Room and every thought it looked great. I didn't have time to get a proper poker table, so we used a banquet table with a green table cloth.

That night, Lila and Jackie were the first to sleep in the Sun Room. They discovered that the neighbors chickens are very noisey, very early!

Saturday morning, Carmen and her mom went to SFO to pick up her brother Kike, his wife Carolina and their son Enrique. Meanwhile Ed, Lila and Ceci dis some last minute fix ups at the house.

We got the call from Carmen and headed over to meet them in El Cerrito. Even though they were exhausted, we all had Dim Sum in El Cerrito.

That night we set up the sofa bed and partitions in the Sun Room, where they slept.

MOTHERS DAY

We all got up and went to the 8:00am mass. Next, Martha, her boy friend and kids came over for breakfast. Just as soon as the wound up, noon was upon us and My mom (aka Grandma) and family showed up for lunch. We gave her a set of Hummel Monks to replace the ones she lost so many years ago when we moved from Glendora to Pleasant Hill. She was really surprised.

After they left, we got about a 45 minute nap and then Pedro and Oilin arrived. We chatted, drank, played a card game called Telefunkie and had dinner.

What a full Mother's Day. Everyone is exhausted

If It wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!

Today,

We started off to Home Depot to get supplies to work on trim for the sun room. Just as we pulled into the parking lot, my friend Gary got pulled over. It was one of the few times, I was not wearing a seat belt. The officer was a girl that appeared to be Lila's age. Gary started to get out of the truck and the officer instructed Gary to get back into the truck. Since he did that, she could not see or prove that we was not wearing a seat belt. She pulled him over cause his windshield was broken, which it has been for about 5 years. Just yesterday, he was talking about how he would get it fixed, when he got pulled over. Long story, short. He might get a fix it notice in the mail, she didn't cite him. I got cited for not wearing a seat belt.

When I got home, and we stopped for lunch, I dropped my sandwich not once, but twice. Tillie enjoyed it.

Then we thought we popped a fuse, or blew a circut. Turned out that Gary's saw died, so we had to go buy another one.

Back at the ranch, it is now 3pm and we have hardly made any progress. Gary is sitting under the pine tree. A pine cone falls a couple of feet away from him. We agree that if anything else bad happens, we will stop and try another day.

In the end, we finished the trim and had a great dinner.

More Sun Room Fun

Well, today I worked from home. I also worked on our sun room and didn't finish until 8:00pm. They delivered the air conditioner/heater until. We were told it was going to be 2 or 3 weeks. Not only did they deliver it, but installed it too. I have never lived in a house with air conditioning, so this is very exciting. My friend Gary Cheek came over to help me with the room. To be more accurate, I am helping him. He knows construction inside and out. I know nothing about construction. Today we put up the dry wall, tape and mud. Tomorrow and Sunday, more wall and flooring.

Lila continues to recover from Chickenpox. Tonight she will sleep in her bed. That is the first time since getting them and I get to sleep in my bed, which I miss dearly. We have a nice couch, but...

Ceci seems pretty much back to normal.

Plans for Mothers Day is posted on the Calendar at Bearfamily.com

Sun Room is finished

Today they finished the sun room. The contractors are finally out of here. Does that mean that the room is finished? No. We still have to put in sheet rock to cover the house's siding. After that we have to install the flooring, which will be a Cherry wood laminent.

Good news for both Ceci and Lila. We were concerned when Ceci said she had some blurred vision in the eye, next to the swelling. The doctor called today to let us know that the xrays came back and all looks good and not to be worried about a bit of blurred vision as long as she doesn't get dizzy. This meant that while Ceci could not play in her softball game today, we was able to attend and support her team. Lila continues to improve, but still will not be able to go back to school until next Monday.

Yesterday, I picked up my 1968 VW bug from the mechanics. They had just rebuilt the engine. On the way home, the engine started running rough. When I stopped for gas, I had a very tough time starting the car. This morning, the owner of the shop came and towed the car back to the shop.

Ceci gets hit by a Softball

Yesterday during practice, Ceci got hit right between the eyes with a not so soft, soft ball. It hit so hard that you can see the imprint of the balls stitching right on her forehead. We had our neighbor, who is a nurse take a look at her to make sure she did not have a concussion. Today, it was still hurting, so Carmen took Ceci to Kaiser, where she got an xray. We are waiting to hear if anything is broken.

Lila, seems to finally be turning the corner and seems to be on her way to recovery. She is still covered with chickenpox, but seems to have less pain. She should be back to school next Monday.
