Lila Goes to Texas

Lila went to Texas last week to visit her childhood friend. Someone really should ask her to post the details!

World Series of Poker ... I won what?

Well...first of all, I attended the World Series of poker weekend before last. I have a great time and brought back three bags full of free stuff including 11 t-shirts.

During the days in Las Vegas, besides getting lots of free stuff, I got We will have ports of callin Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. We have never been to any of these places and are really looking forward to it. They are even paying for our flight to and from Miami. The dates have already been posted on the calendar.

World Series of Poker

I took a couple of days off to be a spectator at the World Series of Poker. This is the fourth year I have attended. The first two years, were by accident. Last year and this year were planned. I got a free flight via Southwest and stayed at the Casino Royale where my friend is the GM. It really is a great little casino hotel. It is the only independently owned casino left on the strip.

In case you are wondering, I did not play in the World Series of Poker. I did play in a small tournament. It got down to two of use and we agreed to split the pot. That means that I have now placed in the money 6 out of eleven tournaments. Not bad, but they are all very small tournaments.

The great thing about the World Series of Poker, as produced by Harrahs at the Rio, is that they have a huge trade-show as part of the whole thing and it doesn't cost anything. I came back with three bags of stuff, including 11 t-shirts, a sweatshirt with a hood, Nice glass mug, water bottles, key chains, too many decks of cards to count and even chapstick.

This time instead of getting autographs for myself, I got a bunch on a shirt for Lila as a surprise. I will be adding a poker web page to my portion (oso) of bearfamily.com.

I naturally managed to spend all the money I won. Part of that was to see Jim Belushi perform with his band at the Orleans. I had a fantastic time. The next evening I went to see the Fab Four at Planet Hollywood, formerly the Aladdin.

The final evening I got to have dinner with my friend Chuck Wood and his wife Joan. We dined at Fish Bone and saw that new movie with Robin Williams as a reverend.

When it was all over, I was so very gland to be home.

Finally!

I finally got to be a contributor! Yay! Any who, things new with me are the following: I'm in summer school now and this math class is the requirement for me to get my AA and hopefully I'll get it in the fall. I'm also leaving for Texas on July 11th to visit friends and my cousin and to just get away for a little bit from the drama that teenage life has to offer. I never thought it would be so exhausting being a teenager. I would like to also let every one know that I plan to transfer to Cal State "East Bay" formerly known as Cal State Hayward. It's quite odd, I applied for Cal State Hayward but I was accepted to Cal State "East Bay". Well I guess that's all for now.

Father's Day

Most of the family met at Ed's House for Father's day, but we did miss David and his family as well as Susan and her family. It was great that Boby was able to make the trip with Riva.

This year as always we celebrated Grandpa's birthday (June 21st) together with Fathers Day. It was Grandpa's turn to get his version of the Hummel Monks. His dad was a railroad yardmaster and had a Railroad Watch. After he past away, Grandpa kept his fathers watch. Somehow over the year, it got lost. Perhaps it is with the Monks?

Anyway, for his birthday he got an FOB for keys or watch and for Fathers Day, he received a Hamilton Watch from the early 40's, which figured to be as close to his dad's watch as possible. The thought was it was a way to remember his father and my father. Railroads are part of our family and have been since the 1800's. The watch had been brought in to be serviced and is in beautiful condition. Today Grandpa has the watch proudly on display at his place.

Lila gave me (Ed) the complete DVD set for the documentary named "Planet Earth". I really enjoyed that series. I think it is the finest documentary on nature I have ever seen.

For lunch we had pulled pork that was made right here in our own home made smoker.

It was a great Father's day all around.

Sick, sick, sick

I (Ed) have been sick for the last two weeks with a deep chest cold. Got so bad, I was afraid of pneumonia, so I actaully went to Kaiser. Drink more water, cut out soda, even diet...etc. Still have quite a cough, but feel a bit better every day.

Last week, Lila managed get a terrible sunburn when she, her cousin Kike, Jacquie and Emily (who is with child) went to Santa Cruz. So while they had a wonderful time, including a sea lion brushing up against Kike, Lila brought back a terrible sun burn. Hopefullly her last.

We played poker Saturday night, but continued my streak of bad luck with pot limit hold'em. I'm looking forward to getting back to our No-Limit Hold'em tournements.

This past weekend, Ceci painted her roomTurquoise blue with a white ceiling. Paul, Ed and Lila put together a 315lb Armoire. What a beast that thing was! Cila is now completely moved out of the room she used to share with Ceci.

Mom (aka Grandma) came by the house on Sunday just before we started working on the house with a coffee cake. I don't think I have had her coffee cake in over 20 years. It was delicous. I need to Lila and Ceci to learn how to make it.

This coming Saturday we are going to play poker and Fathers day will be at our house at 3pm due to Carmen having to work that day.
